SBA Research - K1 (FP2)
For our second research period from 2021 – 2025, we have devised an ambitious work plan, continuing to advance the fields of our current research while tackling new challenges and entering innovative research paths, such as IoT/CPS security, security of distributed systems and distributed ledger technologies, as well as security in machine learning, thereby evolving our research agenda while meeting and addressing the needs of our partner companies.
Our vision remains unchanged: to further establish our position and role – both nationally and on a European level – until 2025 through pioneering research that tackles future challenges of both industry partners and the scientific community. Consequently, we aim at strengthening the resilience of information and IT infrastructures by transforming and incorporating innovative research results into applicable solutions jointly with our partners, ranging from individuals to public and private organizations.
SBA-K1’s research agenda remains identical to our approach in FP1:
- Area 1: Networked Systems Security
- Area 2: Software Security
- Area 3: Privacy and Secure Societies
- Area 4: Applied Discrete Mathematics for Information Security
During the last four years, we have established a world-leading research group in mathematical methods for testing, reliability and information security (Area 4); we furthermore established the leading Austrian research group in security of distributed ledger technologies, spanning several research projects, and we constituted a solid IoT/CPS research group, also active in various ongoing projects.
Building on existing expertise in terms of machine learning at both SBA Research and TU Wien, we established a research group for machine learning, with a stellar record of 80% female researchers. These synergetic activities with TU Wien profit intensely from the current COMET program, and their promising development heavily influenced the structure for the upcoming research period from 2021 to 2025.
With SBA-K1 we built a strong consortium, covering 7 national and 3 international scientific partners, as well as 39 company partners, such as Thales, Frequentis, Raiffeisen Bank International and many innovative SMEs. Moreover, we will continue to cooperate with our numerous partners, such as NASA and NIST in the United States, INRIA in France or NII in Japan.
