On Oct 17, 2023, Bernhard Garn joined as MC member of Austria the meeting MC1 of the COST Action NERO (CA22164 – european Network on Extreme fiRe behaviOr).

This meeting marks the start of this COST Action, which focuses on novel fire regimes characterized by extreme events. NERO’s objectives include:
- Foster the exchange of knowledge and expertise – researchers & practitioners develop and implement a common agenda
- Train the new generation of fire scientists and practitioners across Europe, with particular emphasis on emerging fire-prone countries
- Promote transnational cooperation – share knowledge & tools, not only manpower and firefighting means
- Research serving practice – researchers become aware of operational priorities, needs, and constraints
- Consolidate common awareness and improved, unified training across Europe
- Break silos – create environment to foster cooperative analyses
